I actually started this post by writing something along the lines of “we don’t just blindly post anything Shad puts out”, but had to start over once I realized that is pretty much exactly what we do. Oh well, I’m pretty sure that if you’re even remotely familiar with Shad’s canon, you’ll hardly blame us. Latest case in point, this new jam Homie which is produced by the almighty Skratch Bastid and features a cameo from Cadence Weapon. Apparently this is from a team-up EP Shad and Skratch Bastid have ready to drop called The Spring Up, and it is a shit-ton of fun.
I’m ancient enough to remember when tracks like this were commonplace on hip hop records, so I love this. Billy Squire-esque drums, SB flipping one B.I.G. utterance into an addictive hook & playfully adding some vocoder to his razor cuts, Shad (and Rollie P.) dexterously riding the track with enthusiasm. I’ll take all the songs this CDN Freshco & Miz can muster, and then some.
In terms of more good Shad news, it seems his new full length record, Flying Colours so it looks like the rest of 2013 might provide us with all the Shad we can handle. This is good.
